#Battle of the Six Realms Manga First Impression! » OmniGeekEmpire

It’s being a hot minute since I’ve talked about anything manga-related and I apologize for that but I think I may have something that might interest some Alita: Battle Angel. It’s called Battle of the Six Realms and it’s pretty good from what I’ve read so far!

Here’s the synopsis:

In a world where humanity escaped underground to survive, En is an impoverished boy who lives off the trash of those more privileged than him. He spends his days in the slums, looking through a trash heap for the decomposing bodies of “losers,” those who were defeated and killed in the “Battle of the Six Realms.” To participate combatants have to undergo an expensive “body modification surgery,” and En sells these modifications, machines attached to their bodies that significantly increase fighting ability. Uninterested in the tournament and its champion, unlike everyone else, he aims only for a worry-free life. But one day, a chance encounter with a mysterious man shatters his reality and puts him on a different, more gruesome path.

From reading the first few chapters available, I’ll be honest there wasn’t anything new or revolutionary being done yet, I couldn’t help but be intrigued by the world crafted up by the creator Serina Oda. Aside from the Alita: Battle Angel vibe, the art style isn’t too bad and the powers, the body modifications in this world look like they’re going to be very interesting to see play out. My only complaint is that I felt the story was a little bit predictable, I mean, you’d have to be blind to not see that the Doctor was clearly sus from the start. After Full Metal Alchemist, I’ll never trust a doctor with those round glasses ever again. Maybe I’m being unreasonable, there are only two chapters out after all, so may that will change.

En as a character seems interesting, however I won’t lie, I thought he was a girl at first because of his hair but regardless, the only gripe I have with him is how he knew how to use his powers. They need to explain that in the manga, maybe once the core is activated you’re fed information about your body modifications? I mean, he knew his attack’s name right out the gates despite not knowing he had modifications in the first place! Bit odd for me!

Overall, this one is still worth bookmarking for now! It has promise from what I’ve seen!
