#Hero chases down NYC mugger who stole woman’s phone

A good Samaritan chased down a mugger who punched a woman and snatched her cellphone in Central Park on Friday — and the do-gooder was able to retrieve the stolen item, according to cops and police sources.

The hero jumped into action after witnessing the shocking broad-daylight attack on the East Drive at 110th Street.

The 40-year-old victim had been sitting on a bench and sending text messages at around 10 a.m. — when a man came up to her and tried to grab her iPhone 11, police and sources said.

A struggle ensued and the punk punched the woman in the face, knocking her to the ground, — before he darted off, cops said.

But the witness took off after him and somehow managed to get the phone back and return it to the woman, according to sources and cops, who weren’t immediately able to provide more details about the heroic effort.

The victim refused medical attention at the scene, police said.

She wiped off her phone with hand sanitizer after it was returned, and police could not collect fingerprints, according to sources.

A second witness snapped a picture of the suspect, who was described by sources as in his 40s and wearing a light purple hooded sweatshirt.
