“#Giancarlo Stanton hears boos after rough start to second”
Giancarlo Stanton’s second half began about as well as the Yankees’ did.
The designated hitter grounded into a double play in the first inning and then struck out swinging in each of his next three at-bats in the Yankees’ 4-0 loss to the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium on Friday night. He was booed loudly after each whiff.
Stanton has been productive this season and carried the Yankees offensively during a two-week stretch from April to May, but he also has had prolonged slumps.
On Friday, he got to a full count in each at-bat in which he struck out, but on the first night with Aaron Judge and Geo Urshela on the COVID-19 IL, the Yankees could have used a spark.
Aaron Boone said Stanton was not a candidate to play in the outfield after the Yankees called up Trey Amburgey and Greg Allen from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to provide depth.
