#Hebrew National in talks to be sold to Brazil’s JBS: report

Hebrew National is hunting for a new home.

Conagra’s century-old beef hot dogs brand is in talks to be sold to Brazil’s JBS, the largest beef processor in the world, according to the Wall Street Journal, which cited anonymous sources.

The $700 million deal could also include Egg Beaters, the liquid egg white brand and Odom’s Tennessee Pride sausage, according to the report.

Sales of the kosher franks, which were first sold in the Big Apple in 1905, have increased dramatically during the pandemic after slowing down in 2019.

Conagra acquired the brand in 1993, but is said to be updating its portfolio, which also includes Hunt’s, Slim Jim, Healthy Choice and Duncan Hines to improve the brands’ appeal when the pandemic is over.

A spokesman for Conagra declined to comment on the report as did a spokesman for JBS.

JBS, for its part, has been beefing up its branded meat portfolio, acquiring a year ago the Empire Packing Co. which owns the Ledbetter-branded retail meat products.

Any deal is likely week away, according to the report.
