“Hayden Christensen is Open to Returning as Darth Vader in His Own Spinoff”
Hayden Christensen shares his thoughts on returning as Darth Vader in a standalone show.
When Christensen was asked whether he had any interest in doing a new show based on Darth Vader, he had this to say:
“Yeah you know, I mean absolutely. I think this is a character that sort of resonates in our culture in a very kind of profound way, and there’s certainly more there to explore. Like you said there are so many stories that have been told in these other mediums and I would love to get to continue my journey with him.”
Christensen is correct; there is undoubtedly a ton of source material to pull from if Disney did decide to move forward with a solo Darth Vader outing. In addition, several comics are written within the Star Wars timeline’s canon and dozens of issues that could be the base of a future Darth Vader series. The animated show Star Wars Rebels would have plenty of exciting scenes which could be recreated for live-action, including the reunion between Vader and his once Padawan Ahsoka Tano.
It’s Time for Obi-Wan Kenobi
Tomorrow is release day for the new Disney+ series, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Fans have eagerly awaited the project since McGregor and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy announced it in 2019 at the D23 expo after months of speculation. The miniseries is set 10 years after Episode III and nine years before Episode IV, centering on Obi-Wan as he guards Luke from afar on Tatooine. This was a challenging time for Kenobi, as Inquisitors and Darth Vader hunted down the remaining Jedi across the galaxy. As a result, we should be seeing at least one epic battle between the former Master and Padawan, which has been described as the “rematch of the century.”
Obi-Wan Kenobi will star Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen as Obi-Wan and Darth Vader, with Joel Edgerton reprising his role as Owen Lars. Rupert Friend will play the Grand Inquisitor tasked with hunting down Kenobi. The miniseries will premiere with two episodes, releasing on May 27th.
