Has HISTORY made a decision on The UnXplained’s future?

The UnXplained, a HISTORY documentary series that seeks to explore and understand the mysteries of the universe, wrapped its eight-episode second season in April. Hosted and executive produced by William Shatner (Star Trek, Boston Legal), who often live-tweets each episode, the series gained a steady following of curious viewers who want answers to the unanswerable.

Diving into mysteries like Japan’s Suicide Forest to the Black Stone of Mecca, The UnXplained gets deep into the weird and spooky, much like The Curse of Oak Island, and while some mysteries can’t be solved, scientists, historians, engineers, and researchers continue to try. And as Shatner says, “In this series, we suggest an answer.” And he ups the intrigue by posting questions like “would you be a donor for a vampire?” and “Is there a monster inside each of us?”

But Shatner understands that, often, there are no answers, and he says the lack of explanation is tantalizing.

The fact there’s no explanation is tantalising. It would be good to think that one day we’ll understand all these mysteries. Because there is an explanation, we just don’t know it yet.

Can we look forward to new episodes this summer?

The UnXplained has aired 16 episodes so far since it debuted in 2019, and though an official Season 3 has not been announced by HISTORY, on April 27, after the show aired its Season 2 finale, the program’s Twitter feed announced that the series would be returning in the summer.  It’s unclear whether new episodes have already been filmed and how COVID-19 might affect filming and/or travel.
