Halle Berry, Jeremy Strong Join Juliette Binoche on Cannes Jury

An all-star line-up, including actors Halle Berry, Jeremy Strong, and Alba Rohrwacher, auteur directors Hong Sangsoo, Payal Kapadia, and Carlos Reygadas, French Moroccan writer Leïla Slimani, and Congolese documentarist Dieudo Hamadi will join Oscar-winning French star Juliette Binoche on this year’s international jury for the 2025 Cannes film festival. The group of 5 women and 4 men will pick the winners of this year’s Palme d’Or for best film.

Strong and Kapadie return to Cannes after a triumphant 2024, which saw the U.S. actor impress on the Croisette as Roy Cohn in The Apprentice, a turn that would earn him a best-supporting Oscar nomination this year, and the Indian director win the festival’s Grand Prix with her debut feature, All We Imagine As Light.

Rohrwacher and Reygadas are Cannes regulars. The Italian actress has presented several films in Competition, 2014 Grand Prix winner The Wonders (2014), 2018’s Happy as Lazzaro, and La Chimera in 2023 (all directed by her sister Alice Rohrwacher, while the Mexican director took a Camera d’Or honor for best first feature in Cannes with Japón in 2002, and has returned to the festival with Battle in Heaven (2005), with 2007 Jury Prize winner Silent Light, and 2012’s Post Tenebras Lux, which won him Cannes best director honor.

Hamadi screened his feature Downstream to Kinshasa in Cannes official selection in 2020. Slimani is the critically-acclaimed novelist, perhaps best-known for her second novel, the psychological thriller Chanson douce, which won France’s acclaimed Prix Goncourt.

Binoche, who made her Cannes debut exactly 40 years ago, with the premiere of André Téchiné’s Rendez-vous in 1985, has been a Cannes regular ever since, appearing on the Croisette with such features as Krzysztof Kieślowski’s Three Colors: Red, Michael Haneke’s Caché, Claire Denis’ Let the Sunshine In, and Anh Hung Tran’s The Taste of Things). She won Cannes best actress honor in 2010 for her role as an antiques dealer in Abbas Kiarostami’s Certified Copy. Binoche follows Barbie director Greta Gerwig in the presidential post.

The 78th Cannes International Film Festival runs May 13 – 24.
