#Gruesome ‘worm tornadoes’ horrify Hoboken residents

It’s a worm-nado!

Just in time for this weekend’s “Worm Moon,” thousands of worms swarmed the sidewalks of the Hoboken waterfront this week in circling, tornado patterns.

“Worm Tornado?” city councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher, tweeted along with gruesome pics of the hordes of invertebrate annelids, asking: “Has anyone ever seen anything like this?”

The whorls of worms appeared “several hundred feet upland, on the concrete walkway outside a condo building called Maxwell Place,” according to local news site Patch, making it unlikely they were deposited on the sidewalk via unruly tides.

Theories spread on Twitter included “earthworm herding,” a massive earthworm orgy or that the worms resurfaced en masse due to rain in the area and environmental changes.
