#Google Goes Pink With This Fun ‘Barbie’ Easter Egg – Review Geek

The Google 'Barbie' easter egg, which casts a pink shade over Google Search
Andrew Heinzman / Review Geek

To celebrate the release of the Barbie movie, Google Search has introduced a fun new easter egg. Simply perform a search for “Barbie” to see cartoonish fireworks, plus a pretty light-pink color scheme across the Search interface. The easter egg works on both desktop and mobile browsers.

This is a pretty simple reference to the Barbie movie—it isn’t nearly as complex (or bizarre) as Google’s recent Katamari easter egg, for example. But it’s still very cute, especially if you use Google Search in light mode (the dark mode version is much less colorful).

You can also trigger this easter egg by searching for Greta Gerwig, the director of Barbie. And some of the movie’s cast members, including stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, also get the pink treatment in Search. Presumably, Google will remove the easter egg for these actors after a few months, but we may continue to see a pretty-pink Google Search when looking up “Barbie” or “Barbie movie.”

And, for what it’s worth, this easter egg really makes me wish that Google Search had customizable colors. The light-pink interface is surprisingly pleasant and lighthearted. It certainly pairs well with all the thumbnails, bubbly icons, and other UI changes Google Search has introduced in the last year.

Google Search has released several easter eggs this year, including ones for The Last of Us, Disney’s The Mandalorian, the NASA DART spacecraft, and of course, Super Mario Bros. But our favorite Search easter egg is still The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air—check it out if you’ve got some time on your hands. It’s an awesome nostalgia trip.

Note that Google Search does not have an Oppenheimer easter egg. On the one hand, it’d be cool to see Google celebrate both of these summer blockbusters. But there probably isn’t a “fun” way to reference Oppenheimer‘s subject matter, so this is understandable. We’ll just have to settle for a simple Barbie reference.
