During the 2021 Game Awards, the Google Play team wandered on stage to announce Google Play Games for Windows PCs. The standalone application, which is separate from the Microsoft app store, will let you download Android games from Google Play and share purchased games between all your devices. Now, Google Play Games for Windows is entering an extremely limited beta.
Gamers in Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan can now request beta access to Google Play Games for Windows. If you live outside of these countries, you’ll have to wait for Google to open beta access in your region. (We’re trying to sign up for the beta using a VPN and will update this article if things work out.)
Players can easily browse, download, and play their favorite mobile games on their PCs, while taking advantage of larger screens with mouse and keyboard inputs. No more losing your progress or achievements when switching between devices, it just works with your Google Play Games profile! Play Points can also be earned for Google Play Games activity on PCs.
Technically speaking, the Amazon app store that’s integrated in Windows 11’s Microsoft Store is more robust than Google Play Games. It includes real apps like Instagram and TikTok, not just Android games. Oh, and Google Play Games works on Windows 10, not just Windows 11.
But if you’re an Android gamer, using Google Play Games on Windows just makes sense. Let’s say you already purchased the Android version of Stardew Valley and now want to enjoy the game on PC. Instead of buying a second copy, you can simply log into your Google account and install it for free through Google Play Games.
Google notes that developers can now add keyboard and mouse support to their Android games for Windows users. That said, the company hasn’t announced when it will open a Google Play Games beta for the U.S. or other regions.
