#‘Good Omens’ Renewed for Third and Final Season at Amazon

Amazon is making one final trip to hell.

The streamer has renewed Good Omens, the fantasy-comedy that started as a limited series, for a third and final season. Production on the show from BBC Studios, and based on the novel by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, is expected to begin soon in Scotland.

“I’m so happy finally to be able to finish the story Terry and I plotted in 1989 and in 2006,” Gaiman said in a release announcing the news Thursday. “Terry was determined that if we made Good Omens for television, we could take the story all the way to the end. Season one was all about averting Armageddon, dangerous prophecies and the End of the World. Season two was sweet and gentle, although it may have ended less joyfully than a certain Angel and Demon might have hoped. Now in season three, we will deal once more with the end of the world. The plans for Armageddon are going wrong. Only Crowley [David Tennant] and Aziraphale [Martin Sheen] working together can hope to put it right. And they aren’t talking.”

While season one explored the source material, the unexpected second season went further than the stories in Pritchett and Gaiman’s novel. Gaiman will continue to serve as showrunner, exec producer and writer. Rob Wilkins of Narrativia will represent Pratchett’s estate. Josh Cole, head of comedy at BBC Studios Productions, also executive produces the series, which Amazon MGM Studios, BBC Studios, the Blank Corp. and Narrativia produce.

Gaiman, meanwhile, continues to have a first-look deal with the retail giant and is readying Anansi Boys for the streamer.
