#Girlfriend, Girlfriend Season 2 Coming This October, Different Production Studio

The second season of Girlfriend, Girlfriend is set to begin airing in October. It was also revealed that this new season is produced by Synergy SP instead of Tezuka Production.

Keiichirou Oochi is returning as series composer, while Takatoshi Suzuki (A Couple of Cuckoos episode director) and Shouko Hagiwara (A Couple of Cuckoos chief animation director) are taking over as director and character designer, respectively.

It was also announced that Aoi Koga is joining the cast as Risa Hoshizaki, the younger sister of Rika Hoshizaki.

The first season of the GirlfriendGirlfriend anime premiered in July last year and ran for 12 episodes. The manga, which is serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine, began in March 2020 and has 14 tankoubon volumes as of February this year. Production of the first season was decided eight months after the manga began serialization.

Kodansha Comics describes the story as:

Naoya just got a girlfriend, the gorgeous Saki-chan, and though their intensities often pit them against each other like ice and fire, they’re totally, uncontrollably in love with each other. He vows never to cheat…when out of the blue he receives another confession! Nagisa’s cute, sweet, and she’s made him lunch to boot! He knows he can’t cheat, but he can’t let a cutie like this get away…so he does the logical(?) thing: Asks Saki for permission to date them both! The confidence! The arrogance! The very gall! No matter the outcome, Naoya’s future will be lively!

The cast includes  Junya Enoki as Naoya, Ayane Sakura as Naoya’s first girlfriend and childhood friend Saki Saki, Azumi Waki as second girlfriend Nagisa Minase, Ayana Taketatsu as Rika, and Rie Takahashi as Shino Kiryuu.
