#Giants’ top concern with potential Daniel Jones return

No matter which side of the fence you sit on, coach Joe Judge disagrees if the argument for deciding whether the starting quarterback is green-lit this weekend against the Ravens is based on urgency to win with time running out in the regular season.

“The standard remains the same: My concern has been his health — to make sure he can go on the field and protect himself,” Judge said. “Because of any change in the number of games remaining in the season, that doesn’t dictate what we would put him at in terms of risk.”

The Giants are planning a Friday afternoon practice to allow players Christmas morning with their families. Friday has been the key day each of the last three weeks in determining Jones’ availability to sit, start and then sit again.

“It will be a shorter day and a little bit less intense day in terms of what we do on the field,” Judge said, “so we’re going to have to stay ahead in how we work Wednesday and Thursday as a team.”

Cornerback James Bradberry was activated from the COVID-19/reserve list after the five-day minimum, meaning he never tested positive from his close-contact exposure.

Cornerback Darnay Holmes was not put on injured reserve, which would’ve meant missing three games, when he first injured his knee. Because he’s already missed two, will he be back this week?

“We have to get him on the grass and move him around,” Judge said. “I had hoped we could get him back within a few weeks. The signs looked promising enough.”

Offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, who tested positive for COVID-19, is expected to be available to coach Sunday but might have to travel to Baltimore on his own as he wraps his 10-day quarantine. Garrett participates in virtual meetings but not practices.

Rookie offensive tackle Matt Peart did not play for the first time since Week 2. Judge is a big proponent of subbing in offensive linemen — it was the root of his disagreement with former position coach Marc Colombo — so why the change?

“We had a plan for Matt in place,” Judge said. “He had an ailment that popped up last minute. It had nothing to do with his performance as of late or eliminating a rotation. He should be fine to go next week.”
