#Giants taking extra COVID-19 precautions for Washington trip

The Giants are leaving on that sanitized train to Washington.

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Giants will continue to take extra precautions as they travel for Sunday’s game against the Washington Football Team at FedEx Field.

Before players board the train on Saturday, the Giants will send in their staff to deep-clean and sanitize it, coach Joe Judge said Friday, which is only the beginning of their protocol in an attempt to stay safe.

“We try to stagger the personnel, whether it’s coaches or players, by positions, by groupings to make sure that we don’t have, for example, all of the offensive line on one bus together, something happens and they all go ahead and get pinged,” Judge said. “We try to stagger and spread out the personnel as it is. We’ll do the same thing with the trains. The players will have a bus assignment and a train car assignment when they go down to Washington.”

Judge said that typical train-ride activities, like playing cards, would be off-limits and certain seating locations would be closed off to make sure personnel are at least six feet apart.

“Really our trainers are going to handle that part of it, of walking car to car and making sure before we take off that everyone is in the right seating, we have the right spacing and that everyone is kind of fit to go down there,” Judge said.

The Giants are also considering making changes to their day-to-day work. After spending most of the offseason in virtual meetings and having to go back to that temporarily in the wake of Will Hernandez testing positive for COVID-19 last week, the Giants went fully virtual for their team meetings on Thursday. Judge said they may do it more often as cases surge around the country and, on a smaller scale, throughout the NFL.

“I’ve really seen good attention to detail and good practices as a result of the days we’ve gone virtual,” Judge said. “We’re going to make sure that we take every precaution to keep this team healthy and on the field. I wouldn’t be too surprised if this ends up being somewhat of a regular occurrence, at least as part of the week.”

Veteran cornerback James Bradberry said the change worked well Thursday.

“It gave us more time in the morning to get some more sleep in, get some more recovery in, so I liked it,” Bradberry said
