#Giannis Antetokounmpo ejected after headbutting Wizards’ Moe Wagner

Giannis Antetokounmpo was called for a flagrant-2 foul and ejected Tuesday night after the Milwaukee Bucks star headbutted the Washington Wizards’ Moe Wagner during the second quarter. Antetokounmpo had been fouled several times up to that point and his emotions boiled over after he was called for a charge.

Is he going to be suspended? Probably for a short time, based on precedent.

Kevin Garnett and Hasheem Thabeet were both suspended one game for headbutting opponents in previous years. The Bucks face the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday.

Antetokounmpo finished with 12 points and nine rebounds in just nine minutes and the Bucks held on to win without him. It was his fourth career ejection, including playoffs.

“Terrible action,” Antetokounmpo said, according to ESPN. “If I could turn back time and go back to that play, I wouldn’t do it. But at the end of the day, we’re all human, we all make mistakes. I think I’ve done a great job all year, in my career at keeping my composure and focus on the game, but at the end of the day, we’re human and make mistakes. But at the end of the day, you learn from it, keep playing good basketball and keep moving forward.”

Was it personal?

“I don’t have nothing against Wagner,” he said. “It wasn’t just him. It was just like, in my mind, all these games I’ve played with guys hitting me. I lost it for a second.”

Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer is hoping the league reviews and considers multiple plays leading up to his the 2019 NBA MVP’s reaction before handing out penalties in the form of a suspension and/or fine.
