#Georgia Sen. Kelly Loeffler self-isolating after positive COVID-19 test

Sen. Kelly Loeffler is quarantining after she tested positive for COVID-19 and then took another test with inconclusive results, a campaign spokesman said Saturday.

Loeffler (R-Ga.) took two rapid COVID-19 tests Friday morning and both came back negative. She was cleared to attend events that day, spokesman Stephen Lawson said in a statement.

Later that day, the senator was informed that the results of a PCR test came back positive. She retested on Saturday and received inconclusive results, Lawson added.

“Senator Loeffler followed CDC guidelines by notifying those with whom she had sustained direct contact while she awaits further test results,” he said.

Lawson said Loeffler has no symptoms and is self-isolating until she has conclusive results.

It’s unclear how her diagnosis will affect her campaign.

She’s running against Democrat Raphael Warnock in a heated runoff race — one of two races that could determine which party takes control of the Senate in January.
