Spectrum Cable has precariously mounted a generator on top of power lines following Tropical Storm Isaias in order to address a loss of power in Richmond Hill, and the device will likely remain in the same spot until power is fully restored, said a company spokesman.
The gas-powered generator, mounted on electric lines at the corner of 107th Street and 91 St Avenue, was put in place after a power outage following the Aug. 4 storm. For the past week, a Spectrum worker has been seen every morning filling the generator with gasoline, a concerned resident told The Post.
“When 100 people lose cable what are you supposed to do?” the worker said when asked about the potential safety hazard.
A spokesman for Charter Communications, the Connecticut-based telecommunications company that operates Spectrum, told The Post Saturday the company is “using a temporary generator that enables us to continue to provide internet, TV and phone services to our customers in this area” after a commercial outage in the area.
Following The Post’s inquiries, the spokesman said, “We have escalated this location to Con Ed. The unit is checked daily to see if commercial power has been restored or for any other issues.”
