#Francisco Moya wined and dined lobbyists at private NYC clubs

City Council speaker hopeful Francisco Moya spent thousands in political contributions wining and dining lobbyists for ambulance-chasing lawyers at steakhouses and a private cigar club, according to state campaign-finance disclosures.

The Queens Democrat’s campaign committees spent more than $8,000 between 2013 and 2016 on at least 78 outings in Manhattan and Albany with officers and staff of the Trial Lawyers Association, a powerful lobbying group, documents show.

The records reveal dozens of gatherings — including at steakhouses like Delmonico’s and Bobby Van’s, and the Grand Havana private cigar club, where memberships cost thousands per year and disgraced ex-governor Andrew Cuomo was said to be on the rolls.

On at least eight occasions, including at the posh stogie spot, the former assemblyman’s filings showed meetings on consecutive days — possibly the result of “meetings” running past midnight.

The cigar-chomping Trial Lawyers’ PAC and lobbyists gave about $35,000 to his various campaign committees between 2010 and 2018, according to the records.

During his years in Albany, Moya was a staunch defender of the state’s controversial “Scaffold Law,” under which construction companies are 100 percent liable for site injuries.

Proponents say it promotes job safety; opponents say it lifts New York’s sky-high construction costs and provides grist for slip-and-fall lawyers.

Moya is one of three Democratic frontrunners for speaker, alongside Carlina Rivera, who represents the East Village, and Keith Powers, who represents Midtown.

“Trial lawyers consistently supported Councilmember Moya during his legislative career in Albany. Councilmember Moya has always fought for working families and immigrants, and he is proud of his support from trial attorneys, labor unions, community groups, and Democratic leaders,” David Weiner, a rep for Moya, said in a statement.
