#For once, Cuomo backs down and skips Buffalo Bills game

Sometimes, even Gov. Cuomo knows when to back down: He wisely changed his mind about attending the Buffalo Bills’ playoff game against the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday after massive fury from fans.

The gov initially intended to join in the fun of finally attending a game following his New Year’s announcement that some fans could go to the Bills’ first home playoff game since 1996, albeit with a 6,700-person cap on the audience and major COVID-19 testing, masking and distancing requirements.

But Bills fans who’ve waited decades to attend a playoff game — and a year to attend any game at all — revolted at Cuomo’s bid to reserve himself a seat. A Change.org petition to ban the gov from Bills Stadium had nearly 45,000 signatures as of Thursday afternoon.

The petition told the governor, “We don’t want you here” — and for once he listened.

Cuomo’s giving the ticket to an Erie County Medical Center nurse “as a way of saying thank you and honoring all health-care workers.”

The limited ticket availability is part of New York’s pilot program in partnership with the Department of Health, Buffalo Bills and NFL to begin safely reopening businesses.

With the second-best record in the AFC, the Bills could play three home playoff games. The governor, we assume, will now have the sense to watch them all on TV.
