#Florida police officer shot in downtown St. Petersburg

One St. Petersburg police officer was shot and a second was injured in a dramatic caught-on-video shooting outside a convenience store in the Florida city, according to police and reports.

Mobile phone footage of the incident shows police officers exchanging fire with an unseen suspect — while a man’s voice is heard repeatedly yelling, “that’s my brother, bro,” WFLA-TV reported.

The shots rang out at 4:17 p.m. on 18th South Avenue, with at least one other person — likely the suspect — also shot, the St. Petersburgh Police Department said on Facebook.

Police initially reported that two officers had been shot in the melee, but later clarified that two cops were injured and one was shot.

The officer who was shot was hit in the lower body, WTSP-TV said.

The officer and the other gunshot victim were both taken to local hospitals.
