Maybe she was trying to ferret out the answer to her problems.

An apparently distraught woman leapt into the waters off Weehawken, N.J. in a leopard-print nightgown late Friday — and she wasn’t alone in her desperate leap into the drink.

The woman, who flagged down a Hoboken police officer and claimed she wanted to harm herself before taking off in her own car, ultimately ended up in the Hudson with a ferret by her side.

The concerned Hoboken officer alerted police in nearby Weehawken to watch out for the emotional woman, who ended up ditching her car in the middle of a street near the New York Waterway Ferry Terminal before taking the plunge.

The woman began swimming way before the North Hudson Regional Marina Unit and New York Harbor Patrol could catch up with her.

Video from the scene shows the dark-haired lady’s head bobbing in the water.

The 90-second clip shows first responders throwing a life preserver to the woman who in turn, hands off the critter to her rescuers, who then pass the ferret off to a firefighter. The smoke-eater relays the creature into the safe hands of a police officer, who carefully wrapped it in a towel.

“Is this for real?” one incredulous onlooker spouts during the evening melodrama.

The woman, wearing a leopard-print, one-shouldered nightgown, was brought to Hoboken University Medical Center for treatment.

Cops declined to identify the woman — or comment on the ferret, saying the incident was “under investigation.”
