#First Film of Space Battleship Yamato 2205 Sequel Project Announced For October 8

The official website for Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2202 revealed that the first film of the Uchū Senkan Yamato 2205: Aratanaru Tabidachi sequel project, is scheduled for an October 8 release in Japan. Titled Uchū Senkan Yamato 2205: Aratanaru Tabidachi – Zenshō -TAKE OFF-, it is the first of two planned films in the newest sequel project in the Space Battleship Yamato franchise. The story begins three years after the war with the White Comet Empire, and the now-commander Susumu Kodai helms the battleship Yamato with a new crew.

As with prior films in the franchise, a special edition Blu-ray of the film will be available simultaneously with the film opening date and digital cels. A separate edition Blu-ray and DVD release is slated for November 26.

Returning cast members include Daisuke Ono as Susumu Kodai, Hōko Kuwashima as Yuki Mori, Hōchū Ōtsuka as Shirō Sanada, Kōichi Yamadera as Abelt Dessler, and Kikuko Inoue as Starsha Iscandar. Nobuhiko Okamoto also returns as Tasuke Tokugawa from the Space Battleship Yamato 2202: Warriors of Love anime. New cast members will feature Tasuku Hatanaka as Ryūsuke Domon, Tomo Muranaka as Miyako Kyōzuka, Kento Itō as Shigeru Sakamoto, and Wataru Hatano as Heiji Bandō.

The website also added previews of the film’s various ships. It includes the anime’s titular ship, the space battleship Yamato; Dessler’s flagship, the Deusula III; the carrier Hyūga; and the escort carrier Asuka.

The two new sequel films follow the Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2202 project, which in turn is a sequel to the Space Battleship Yamato 2199 project. The 2199 project involved a series of seven movies screened theatrically throughout Japan from 2012 to 2013. The 2202 project also involved a series of seven movies that was released from 2017 to 2019, with the television anime version titled Space Battleship Yamato 2202: Warriors of Love airing in 2018. The compilation film for the Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2199 and Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2202 anime titled Uchū Senkan Yamato” to Iu Jidai: Seireki 2202-nen no Sentaku started airing on June 11.

The Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2202 project is described as:

Three years after the Yamato’s return from the planet Iscandar. The people of Earth restored their planet with the Cosmo Reverse System, and they signed a peace treaty with Garmillas. In addition to reconstruction, Earth developed a new defense fleet that includes the state-of-the-art battleship Andromeda. The Earth goes down a path of military expansion, despite Starsha Iscandar’s wishes. The Yamato helps accomplish this so-called peace, but it comes at the price of many invaluable sacrifices. The goddess Teresa, who prays for tranquility in space, calls the Yamato to a new voyage. The threat of Gatlantis is sweeping over the universe and approaching Earth.
