# Rumor: Switch successor not slated to launch until Q1 2025 [Update]

Nintendo will not release its successor to Switch until Q1 2025, according to reports from Brazilian journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe and Eurogamer.

Earlier today, Lippe tweeted that, after speaking with five separate sources across three continents, the successor to Switch will not launch until 2025. Speaking on the O X do Controle podcast, Lippe added some of his sources have been dealing with a Q1 2025 release window for a while, though two sources framed it as a delay from 2024. More Switch games from Nintendo are reportedly coming in 2024, and while Lippe noted that he is not privy to Nintendo’s entire release schedule, the few unannounced titles he does know of are “small,” and he speculates that Nintendo’s bigger releases are being saved for its successor.

VGC editor-in-chief reporter Andy Robinson added that two development sources that spoke to the outlet today indicated they were working on games for a Switch successor planned for release in early 2025, but could not confirm if that meant a 2025 launch for the console itself.

Eurogamer editor-in-chief Tom Phillips followed up in a separate report, claiming it heard similar whispers of an early 2025 launch from industry sources this week, but has not been able to concretely substantiate them. It notes that Switch launched in March 2017, and speculates that a successor could imitate its successful launch timing.

Nintendo has yet to officially announce a successor to Switch, but Universo Nintendo has reported that multiple development companies and publishing partners of Nintendo are preparing to announce Switch successor projects in March.

Update 2:40 p.m.: VGC has updated its story, stating that it has heard from multiple sources who said Nintendo recently briefed publishers on an internal delay in launch timing from late 2024 to early 2025. One source said the delay was so that Nintendo could prepare a stronger first-party lineup for the new console.
