#FEATURE: 5 Attack on Titan Final Season Scenes That Broke Us

“FEATURE: 5 Attack on Titan Final Season Scenes That Broke Us”

Attack on Titan group

This article contains major spoilers for Attack on Titan Final Season Part 1 and Part 2. It does NOT cover the events in Attack on Titan Final Season THE FINAL CHAPTERS Special 1.

Amidst all of the high-octane thrills and spills of Attack on Titan Final Season, there have also been moments of introspective tension that tug at the heartstrings. Sometimes, it’s after a big conflict, and other times it’s right there in the middle of it. We thought we would take a look back at the emotional moments that brought us to this point. We were ready to embark on an excursion of violence, but we sure weren’t ready for a feels trip. Don’t forget to bring a buddy!

Assassin’s Bullet (Attack on Titan Final Season Part 1: Episode 67)

Attack on Titan Episode 67

One of the most shocking Attack on Titan scenes in history has the Scout Regiment’s heart and soul killed following a successful raid on Liberio. Sasha scarcely has time to react as the stowaway Gabi takes aim with a rifle and lands a fatal blow.

We’ve seen plenty of Eldia’s finest meet unfortunate ends, from Commander Erwin’s final charge to Miche Zacharius becoming the guest of honor at the world’s worst dinner party, but something about Sasha Braus being felled with a single bullet hits different.

Perhaps it’s because the danger was thought to have passed, or that we hadn’t experienced a loss to one of our core cast members since Bertholdt, who by that time had been revealed to be a Marleyan turncoat. Maybe being a casualty in this way is inglorious when compared to death at the hands — and teeth — of the Titans.

Just moments beforehand, Jean had expressed particular relief that Sasha and Conny were safe. Every single time they were in a tense situation, that was the only solace he could take; that those closest to him lived to fight another day. We, as viewers, felt the same way about this humble little country girl with a big appetite, and now she's gone forever, leaving us with one of Attack on Titan's saddest scenes.

From You, 2,000 Years Ago (Attack on Titan Final Season Part 2: Episode 80)

Attack on Titan Episode 80

So many of the innocent lives lost on Paradis Island are tragic and wrong, only alleviated somewhat by the concept that they had at least found a modicum of joy and satisfaction prior to their demise.

Ymir Fritz never had this opportunity. Her village was invaded by the Eldian empire, her people either killed on the spot or their tongues forcibly removed as they were forced into slavery. When a pig is let loose, she is unanimously blamed, to be released into the woods and hunted for sport.

When at long last it seems as though her miserable existence has met its end, she was fused with an anomalous being to become history’s first Titan. Her reward; a new life of servitude as the king’s concubine, a role she would play until her death. Her daughters would consume her remains to continue the horrors of the Titans for generations to come.

Seeing this dark story play out before our very eyes as Eren and Zeke seek the deity’s aid in the lonely, arid landscape of the Coordinate is deeply disturbing. Still, she is being called upon by the Jaegers to do her bidding, not allowed to rest even in death.

Pride (Attack on Titan Final Season Part 2: Episode 83)

Attack on Titan Episode 83

One of the things Attack on Titan Final Season has done so well is revealing just how much these people have changed over the years. Conny Springer was always the comic relief; the bumbling, well-intending knucklehead who was constantly foiled by his own hubris.

But war has an effect. The things Conny has seen and done, no one should ever have to suffer through. That’s why it is hard to witness him make a devastating choice in the fallen village of Ragako.

In this tragic Attack on Titan scene, Conny plans to feed Falco to his monstrous mother, rendering her the new Jaw Titan and finally freeing her from her position of eternal immobility. It’s only when Armin calls his bluff, threatening to instead sacrifice himself in the youth’s place, that Conny finally relents.

We don’t celebrate the act he was going to commit, but we understand it. Have you ever sat there and thought about how long Ms. Springer has been trapped? Conny surely has, plagued with the pain of being unable to help her.

This was his shot and he was willing to shed the last fragments of his humanity to do it. He may have simply been replacing one trauma with another, as sending a child to their death likely would have been a scene that haunted him forevermore, but there was no real decision that could yield a result he’d feel good about.

So there she remains, staring off into eternity, while Conny has to muster up the courage to return to battle. He doesn’t even have his best friend around anymore to lighten the emotional load — in fact, he hardly has anything left at all.

Traitor (Attack on Titan Final Season Part 2: Episode 85)

Attack of Titan Episode 85

As the years went by the Scouts would see their enemies increase in scope. Initially limited to only the gruesome Titans, their job at least made sense; slay horrid beasts to protect your people.

But then they would meet folks with opposing ideals, from the Anti-Personnel Control Squad to the citizens of Marley, creating obligations to turn their weapons on their fellow humans. Difficult as this is, they were at least strangers to them, anonymous faces who were out to kill them if they didn’t strike first. In Attack on Titan: Final Season Part 2, the epic battle against the Jaegerists brings the situation to a head. These aren’t just any old foe, these are their former companions and fellow 104th Training Corps graduates; specifically, Samuel and Daz.

It may be easy to forget, but they had been a part of this narrative as long as the heavy hitters like Jean, Annie and Reiner. Samuel was the one Sasha had saved from falling to his death when the Colossal Titan invaded Trost, while Daz had been rescued by Ymir and Krista during the training exercise in the mountains.

They were there. They were allies. They had their own hopes and dreams, fears and ambitions. In the Jaegerist movement, they saw salvation from the follies that had plagued them, an opportunity to, at last, stand a chance against a world that hated them. Until Attack on Titan Final Season, Eren had been Attack on Titan’s hero, not only to us but to the people around him.

After all they’ve been through the final fight they lose is the one against Armin and Conny, people they had presumed to be their friends. History may not remember these fallen soldiers, but they tried their absolute best, all up until the very end.

The Dawn of Humanity (Attack on Titan Final Season Part 2: Episode 87)

Attack on Titan Episode 87

In the time between Attack on Titan Season 3 and Attack on Titan Final Season Part 1, we are given clues as to the events that transpired; the acts that would lead Eren on a path of fanatical martyrdom and subsequently render him humanity’s greatest threat. It isn’t until the very last episode of Attack on Titan Final Season Part 2 that we truly understand the catalyst behind it all, the last chance society had to put a stop to the madness and create a peaceful future for everyone.

Attending a forum to discuss the stance on the Subjects of Ymir, the Scouts learn firsthand how despised they are, with calls for their extermination coming together in a scene that erupts into thunderous applause. Eren slips off, not to be seen again by the people who love him until the cataclysmic skirmish that takes place in Liberio.

It’s all heart-wrenching to watch unfold as it hearkens back to a comparatively wholesome era when Eren, Mikasa and Armin were an inseparable family who would do anything for one another. Its most poignant moment may be the discussion between Eren and Mikasa the night before the forum, where Eren questions how she really feels about him.

Perhaps their paths had been set in stone by that point, but had she answered differently, could Mikasa have stopped Eren from committing the atrocities he would later unleash on the planet? All she can do is wonder and clutch tightly to the scarf that links her back to a childhood of innocence.

Now the fate of humanity lies in the balance in Attack on Titan Final Season THE FINAL CHAPTERS. That said, which Attack on Titan Final Season scenes have stuck with you throughout this unforgettable story?
