#Father-son duo busted for allegedly swiping outdoor ATM in NYC

A father-son duo were busted early Wednesday morning for allegedly stealing an outdoor ATM on the Lower East Side, police sources said.

Police are now probing whether Brooklyn residents James Allen, 72, and his 45-year-old son, Ed Allen, are behind more than a half dozen other ATM thefts in Lower Manhattan in the last month, sources said.

The relatives were spotted by detectives with the NYPD’s Grand Larceny Division allegedly swiping the ATM located on Clinton Street near Rivington Street at about 4:30 a.m.

The duo sped off in a stolen Ford van, heading north on the FDR drive, where they sideswiped a police car before being caught at East 52th Street.

Police sources said an accomplice of the Allens, who was driving a Cadillac, ran over a detective’s foot trying to escape. It’s unclear if the person was arrested.

James was charged in Wednesday’s ATM theft and two others, including one in Harlem on June 28 and another at 164 Ludlow St. from May 21, sources said.

The father has 11 prior arrests, including grand larceny and assault, sources said.

Ed has been charged in Wednesday’s theft. He has 53 prior arrests, including assault and grand larceny, sources said.

But authorities are looking to see if the Allens carried out any more recent brazen ATM heists, including one from 4:15 a.m. on Sept. 1 at 161 Ludlow St. — just across the street from one of James’ other alleged thefts.

Fernando Mateo, a spokesman for the United Bodegas of America, said last month the industry has seen a spike in such incidents.

“We have never witnessed anything like this before,” Mateo said. “It’s like out of a movie script, they must have seen this on TV.”
