#Fake British hunk tricked 90 people

There are plenty of fish in the sea and apparently one British catfish has caught over 90 of them.

A British man found out that his boyfriend of eight months is actually not who he says he is. Lee, a 28-year-old project manager, felt like something was way off with his relationship when his his supposed beau “Paul” didn’t show up one night for a date.

So he did what any dater would do and called MTV UK’s “Catfish” team, Julie Adenuga and Oobah Butler, to help him figure out the problem.

On Wednesday night’s episode, Lee discovered that “Paul” was actually Shay, a man who had catfished 90 people over a period of five years because he “gets a buzz out of it.”

Lee and Paul — er, Shay — connected on a dating app last year and spoke to each other through Snapchat and other social media platforms. However, they never exchanged phone numbers. When the pair agreed to meet, Paul didn’t show up and told Lee that a puppy was hit by a car and he had to take him to a vet. That’s when a lightbulb went off in Lee’s head and he decided to contact the show.

“For me, there’s more red flags than a golf course, but I’m so invested. He’s such a kind and caring person, there’s more to him than just looks, it’s that personality,” Lee explained. “I feel like I’ve opened up to him, I’m quite a guarded person but I’ve let my guard down completely.”

Lee added that he’s never been in a relationship before and believed his connection with Shay had “potential.” The East London native also told the hosts that he would schedule dates with Shay and he would never show up. “I felt so crushed, I felt like my confidence had been taken away from me,” Lee said.

Adenuga and Butler put on their little detective shoes and got to work. They figured out that Shay was using a profile for a man named Danny, father of one with a girlfriend whose photos were the same as Paul’s.

MTV UK called Danny to confirm he’s not dating Lee. “He’s definitely not talking to me,” Danny revealed. “I’ve got a girlfriend, I’ve got a child, this happens quite a bit now. I get numerous people saying they’ve been talking to me. There must be a profile on every dating app.”

Adenuga and Butler proceeded to find Shay, who explained he doesn’t catfish “to be rude” and he’s talking to “eight or nine people” at the moment. He also explained catfishing is “not something he can stop.” Shay was found to have several social media profiles using different names. He apologized to Lee, however, two months later when Adenuga and Butler caught up with him, he still hasn’t stopped his wild ways.

“It’s not something I can stop,” Shay explained. “It’s very very addictive.”
