#FAA proposes $52K fine for man who tried to open cockpit door

Federal airline regulators are ramping up enforcement actions amid a recent spate of unruly passengers, including one man who tried to open a cockpit door.

Among the measures announced Monday by the Federal Aviation Administration are proposed fines totaling over $100,000 against four passengers on recent flights.

One of the pursued penalties, a $52,500 one, is against a man who tried to open a cockpit door and assaulted a flight attendant on a Seattle-bound Delta Air Lines flight in December, according to the FAA.

Police later boarded the plane in Seattle and took the man into custody.

Just this year, the FAA said it has fielded over 1,300 complaints from airlines and disruptive behavior.

Many of the incidents involve passengers who refuse to wear face masks or appear intoxicated.

Instead of trying to counsel the rowdy passengers, the FAA said it’s opting for immediate enforcement.
