#Ex-Marshall football player Jaquan Yulee dead at 24

Jaquan Yulee, a former linebacker at Marshall University, died in a car crash on Tuesday night in Suffolk, Va, the university announced Wednesday.

He was 24.

Suffolk units responded to a single-vehicle crash around 7:10 p.m. on Tuesday night, and the vehicle was found flipped upside down, according to WAVY.

Yulee, who was the only occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the crash was not immediately clear.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of former Marshall football student-athlete Jaquan Yulee,” the Marshall Football account posted on Twitter. “His energy and ability to connect with so many in our fanbase was exemplary. He will be missed by so many in the Thundering Herd.”

Across three seasons at Marshall, Yulee registered 48 tackles in 20 games. He played only one game during the 2019 season due to a broken neck and spinal injury, which caused him to miss the 2020 season. He recently opted to transfer from Marshall after the school declared him medically ineligible, thwarting a potential return.

He reportedly was deciding between Virginia State University, Central State University and Virginia Union University.

“A sad day for all who knew Jaquan Yulee,” former Marshall coach John Holliday wrote on Twitter. “He is one of the toughest and most resilient football players I’ve ever been around. But more, he was beloved by coaches and teammates because of the type of person he was. He will be missed.”
