“#Even at the UN, pandering on Palestine is slowly losing its luster”
The pander-on-Palestinians game is losing its luster, thanks in part to the Trump administration’s bold diplomacy.
So, yes, plenty of nations voted to condemn Israel for alleged nastiness in Gaza and the West Bank. One resolution even referred to the Temple Mount only by its Muslim name, al-Haram al-Sharif — wishing away Judaism’s most sacred site.
But the 138 nations that endorsed the drafts (vs. eight against and 16 abstaining) is a notable drop from the 157 that supported the same basic thing last year. Not huge progress, but it’s a step in the right direction.
Notably, Hungary, often accused of anti-Semitism, joined the opposition: It’s becoming a regular Israeli ally.
Meanwhile, other countries are joining Washington in admitting that Jerusalem is Israel’s capital — a key defiance of the stale conventions exploded by President Trump.
That Israel-bashing is no longer an easy appeal to global pieties is progress — slow progress, but steady.
