More than six months later, the Giants tight end looks ready to fulfill that promise.
Engram posted a video to his Instagram account on Monday, which showed him cutting and running without any visible limitations on an empty football field. During an unusual offseason in which the Giants have not been able to hold any organized team activities, it was the first public glimpse of Engram doing that kind of activity since his Dec. 20 surgery.
The next step will be assessing how Engram looks and feels upon showing up to training camp, which is scheduled to begin on July 28.
The 25-year-old has been a tantalizing talent for the Giants during his first three years in the NFL and is entering an important season this fall. The Giants already picked up his fifth-year option earlier this offseason, which puts him under contract through 2021, but Engram will be looking to bounce back from his latest injury to prove he can be a keeper in the Giants’ offense under a new coaching staff.
Feeling rejuvenated with a revamped diet, Engram got off to a strong start last season before missing a game with a sprained MCL and then injuring his foot in Week 9 against the Cowboys. He never got back on the field, ultimately having to visit renowned foot and ankle specialist Dr. Robert Anderson in Green Bay for surgery on a ligament in his foot.
“Definitely didn’t choose to be in this position but it’s all part of a plan,” Engram said two days before his surgery. “I have the utmost faith in the path forward and I can’t wait to attack this process and get back to the player that I know I am and the player that I know I’m going to be for this team.”
