#ESPN’s Maria Taylor claps back at Doug Gottlieb over Anthony Davis ‘mistake’

Maria Taylor said she made a “clear mistake” on her All-NBA ballot, but that hasn’t stopped critics from coming at her on social media once again.

The ESPN “NBA Countdown” host left Lakers star Anthony Davis off her All-NBA ballot, but did so inadvertently, she indicated Saturday on Twitter after the media votes were made public. Davis still made the first team without any trouble, showing up on 99 of 100 ballots with 79 first-team votes and 20 second-team votes.

“Wow it’s been a long week,” Taylor tweeted. “But if everyone would now like to take away my voter privileges because of a CLEAR mistake. Please feel free.”

Many still tried, including Fox Sports analyst Doug Gottlieb, who questioned why Taylor had a vote in the first place. Taylor, who is also a top college football and basketball sideline reporter for ESPN and joined “NBA Countdown” last year, didn’t hold back in her reply.

“Because I PLAYED basketball…I COVER the league. And I DESERVE everything I’ve worked hard for,” tweeted Taylor, who played basketball and volleyball at the University of Georgia.

It was the second time this week that Taylor, 33, was left to defend herself on social media — though many others had her back. While she was working as a sideline reporter for ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” game between the Giants and Steelers, a Chicago radio host made a crude comment about her outfit, comparing it to something an “AVN” (Adult Video News) award show host would wear.

The radio host, Dan McNeil, has since been fired by Entercom.

“Well Danny Dearest if you would like to continue making sexist comments about me…please bring your misogyny with you to the NBA Countdown double header I’ll be hosting tomorrow night,” Taylor tweeted later that night. “Hey ladies remember you can wear whatever you feel confident in!”
