“#Yowamushi Pedal Stage Play will Return with New Show “The Cadence!” in Summer 2022”

The Yowamushi Pedal stage play series inspired by Wataru Watanabe’s road bicycle racing-themed manga celebrates its tenth anniversary today, February 1, and it is announced that a new show “The Cadence!” is set to be performed in Tokyo and Osaka in the summer of 2022.

The first show of the long-running series was performed at The Galaxy Theater in Tokyo from February 1 to 6, 2012. It became one of the first successful stage plays based on Japanese manga and anime, and was greeted with enthusiasm by fans, with a total of 15 shows performed to date. After the postponment due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the most recent show SPARE BIKE Chapter -Heroes!!- was performed in Osaka and Tokyo in March 2021.

Kosuke Kujirai, who has played Junta Teshima since 2016, newly serves as director. And Shatner Nishida, who directed the previous shows, takes on a new position as general director and script writer. Kujirai says, “I’m currently feeling a mixture of pressure and excitement, but I’m going to put all of my energy into this project under the supervision of Shatner Nishida-san, the general director.” Then Nishida adds, “The main theme of ‘Yowamushi Pedal’ is that friends pass on their feelings to each other. Just as that theme overflows into reality, I’m sure that CAP Kujirai will carry on my passion as a director.”
