In the middle-of-nowhere city Slobozia, Romania, stands a replica of the Eiffel tower. It’s said that the 54 meter-high structure was built by a millionaire who wanted to turn the surrounding city’s fields into an amusement park themed around monuments of the world. Today, the structure’s only surrounding buildings are all empty and rundown, and the air feels more lonely than celebratory. It never did live up to its promise.

It’s a fitting setting for FADER label signee Elijah Waters’ latest music video, “Paris,” a song that’s also about unfulfilled desires. Out today, it follows the London-based singer and songwriter as he explores the strange Eiffel tower copycat in search of his own sort of truth. A pensive song, filled with rattling footsteps and plucked guitar, the track gives off a nervous, incomplete energy; his vocals lap and overlap as he wails out lyrics about a “vacant love” in a slurry.

“The video follows [me] through a town that has the false promise of paris like the song is about a false promise of love,” Writers tells The FADER of the song in a statement. “I keep coming closer and closer only to find out it’s not the real thing. meanwhile [i] follow two butterflies and 2 birds that each find their own separate way eventually. only for the butterfly to make a reappearance at the end when i look away. You blink and you miss it. Paris is an unfulfilled promise to love in a song + video.”

“Paris” is the latest single from Waters’ and follows previous releases “New Mind” and “Bobby.” Hear the song and watch the video below.
