Following their big wins at the Tokyo Anime Award Festival 2021, Keep Your Hands off Eizouken! and Violet Evergarden: The Movie have gone on to win more awards, this time at the 24th Japan Media Arts Festival’s Animation Division.
Eizouken! was the winner of the Grand Prize, mirroring its Anime of the Year win at TAAF 2021. Meanwhile, the Violet Evergarden movie was recognized with the Excellence Award alongside A Whisker Away, Marona no Genzouteki na Monogatari, and Grey to Green.
Meanwhile, several other notable anime were recognized under the Jury Selections category, namely Japan Sinks 2020, Blade of the Immortal, and Case File nº221: Kabukicho. Another anime, ON-GAKU: OUR SOUND, was the Grand Prize winner for the festival’s Entertainment Division.
The Japan Media Arts Festival began in 1997 and is described as a “comprehensive festival of Media Arts (Media Geijutsu in Japanese) that honors outstanding works from a diverse range of media – from animation and comics to media art and games.” Aside from animation and entertainment, the festival also has categories for art and manga and has Festival Platform and Special Achievement awards.
For the manga division, March comes in like a lion was awarded with the Grand Prize, while Golden Kamuy and My Broken Mariko were recognized with the Social Impact Award and New Face Award respectively.
In the Special Achievement Award category, Masako Nozawa, the voice actress of Goku in Dragon Ball, was one of the four receivers of the award.
