#Economic Report: U.S. consumer confidence rises slightly in July to 16-month high

Consumer confidence index edges up to 129.1 from 128.9 in June

The confidence of Americans in the U.S. economy stayed high in July even though an outbreak of the delta strain of the coronavirus threatened to result in governments reimposing some restrictions on individuals and businesses.

The closely followed index of consumer confidence edged up to a 16-month high of 129.1 from a revised 128.9 in June, the Conference Board said Tuesday.

Economists polled by The Wall Street Journal had forecast a reading of 125.
