“Super Hero Gets Summer Worldwide Release”

Crunchyroll has announced that the upcoming Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie will debut globally sometime in the summer. The movie is set to release in Japan on June 11.

Crunchyroll is distributing the film in North America and co-distributing with Sony Pictures Entertainment in Latin America, Europe, Australia/New Zealand, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia (excluding Japan). The company says that the film will be released with both subtitled and dubbed versions.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is the second film to be inspired by the Dragon Ball Super anime and manga series. The previous film, Dragon Ball Super: Brolywas released in 2018, while the series aired from 2015 to 2018. The Shueisha-published Dragon Ball Super manga, written by Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball creator) and drawn by Toyotarou (Dragon Ball Heroes Victory Mission, Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection “F”), began in 2015 and has 18 volumes as of April 2022. The manga is serialized in V Jump and published under the Jump Comics label.

Crunchyroll describes the movie as:

The Red Ribbon Army was once destroyed by Son Goku. Individuals, who carry on its spirit, have created the ultimate Androids, Gamma 1 and Gamma 2. These two Androids call themselves “Super Heroes”. They start attacking Piccolo and Gohan… What is the New Red Ribbon Army’s objective? In the face of approaching danger, it is time to awaken, Super Hero!

Tetsurou Kodama (Dragon Ball Super: Broly co-CG sequence director) is directing the 3DCG film. Other staff include Kubota Chikashi (One-Punch Man character designer) as animation director, Nobuhito Sue (Dragon Ball Super: Broly art designer) as art director, Rumiko Nagai (Dragon Ball Super: Broly) as color designer, and Naoki Satou (Eureka: Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution) as music composer. Toriyama is handling the character designs and writing the script.

Returning voice actors from the previous Dragon Ball Super film and TV series include Masako NozawaToshio FurukawaRyou HirokawaTakeshi KusaoAya Hisakawa, and more.
