“Draymond Green and the you-love-him-when-he’s-on-your-team All-Stars”
There continue to be athletes throughout professional sports who fans despise as an opponent but absolutely would revere and defend if that person played for their team.
Few current antagonizing performers exemplify this phenomenon quite like Warriors forward Draymond Green, who is back in the NBA Finals for the sixth time and pushing — literally! — for his fourth championship ring alongside Steph Curry and that historically impressive group. The Warriors-Celtics series is tied 1-1 as it moves to Boston for tonight’s Game 3 (9 p.m., ABC).
Green has been at his pesty best in the early part of this title series, always willingly walking the fine line between costing his team with technical fouls and flustering and neutralizing his opponents – Celtics guard Jaylen Brown in Game 2, most notably – with his physical play and mouthy presence.
Green’s latest effectiveness in this regard got us thinking about some other examples of this sort of love-hate relationship with a player, including athletes who have represented our local teams and those despised while donning opposing uniforms.
