#Drake Breaks Silence On Travis Scott's Fatal Astroworld Tragedy

Drake was a surprise guest during Travis Scott’s ill-fated set at the Astroworld Festival in Houston, Texas on Friday night (November 5). But as the show went on, a tragedy was unfolding in the crowd of approximately 50,000 people as they rushed the stage. Eight people died and over 300 others were injured, bringing the two-day event to an abrupt and horrific end.

Scott has spoken out multiple times since the news broke and has promised to pay for the funerals of the deceased. Now, Drake has broken his silence. On Monday (November 8), the Canadian superstar reluctantly headed to Instagram and expressed his sorrow.

“I’ve spent the past few days truing to wrap my mind around this devastating tragedy,” he wrote. “I hate resorting to this platform to express an emotion as delicate as grief but this is where I find myself. My heart is broken for the families and friends of those who lost their lives and for anyone who is suffering. I will continue to pray for all of them, and will be of service in any way I can. May God be with you all.”

Travis Scott, Live Nation and Drake have been named in multiple lawsuits in the wake of the incident. On Saturday (November 6), concert attendee Manuel Souza hired a legal team to sue Scott, Live Nation and multiple other defendants in Harris County District Court for both negligence and gross negligence.

Souza believes the fatalities were “predictable and preventable” had organizers paid more attention to several red flags in the days leading up to the event, including an incident in which “concertgoers breached a security gate around the park, stampeded into the premises, and trampled over one another.”

Another concert-goer, Kristian Paredes, wants to hold Drake accountable, too. Paredes said Travis Scott’s concert history should’ve been considered while planning this year’s festival. Paredes claimed in the docs Scott and Drake both “helped incite the crowd that night.”

Souza and Paredes are seeking $1 million in damages each. HipHopDX continues to send our condolences to the families of all the victims.
