“Dr. Stone “Ryusui” Special To Air on July 10, Main Trailer Released”

The Dr. Stone “Ryusui” TV special has released a lengthy main trailer, which also reveals a July 10 release date in Japan.

Set after the defeat of the Tsukasa Empire, the 60-minute Dr. Stone special sees the cast intending to set sail for the New World to learn more about the petrification phenomenon. In need of an experienced captain for their ship, they awaken Ryusui Nanami, the heir to the Nanami zaibatsu and a person with sailing experience, based on information from Minami.

The “Ryusui” special will precede the anime’s third season, which will premiere in 2023. The first season aired in 2019, while the second season aired in 2021.

Dr. Stone is based on the Shueisha-published manga by Riichirou Inagaki and Boichi began in 2017 and has 25 tankoubon volumes as of March 2022. The series is serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump and published under the Jump Comics label. A spin-off titled Dr. Stone Reboot: Byakuya, also by Riichirou Inagaki and Boichi, was released in 2019.

Crunchyroll describes the anime as:

Several thousand years after a mysterious phenomenon that turns all of humanity to stone, the extraordinarily intelligent, science-driven boy, Senku Ishigami, awakens. Facing a world of stone and the total collapse of civilization, Senku makes up his mind to use science to rebuild the world. Starting with his super strong childhood friend Taiju Oki, who awakened at the same time, they will begin to rebuild civilization from nothing… Depicting two million years of scientific history from the Stone Age to present day, the unprecedented crafting adventure story is about to begin!

The Dr. Stone “Ryusui” special is directed by Shuuhei Matsushita (Yu-No: A Girl Who Chants Love at the Bound of this World assistant director) instead of the first two seasons’ Shinya Iino. Returning staff include Yuuichirou Kido as series composer and scriptwriter, Mayuko Iwasa as character designer, Yoshio Mizumura for design works, Hiroyuki Horiuchi as main animator, Shunichiro Yoshihara as art director, Fuzako Nakao as color designer, Takeshi Kuzuyama as photography director, and Tatsuya Katou, Hiroaki Tsutsumi, and YUKI KANESAKA as music composers. TMS Entertainment is the animation production company.
