#Letters to the Editor — June 18, 2021

The Issue: President Biden’s summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Geneva on Wednesday.

As a lifelong Democrat, I was embarrassed by President Biden’s press conference performance following his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin (“Cold war,” June 17).

Biden even flubbed the softball questions lobbed to him by a docile press.

We all agreed President Donald Trump had to go, especially after his incitement of the criminal mobs on Jan. 6, but it looks like we have traded a fascist wannabe-dictator for an enfeebled, old-school politician.

Here’s hoping the Democratic Party has a deep bench for the 2024 election, meantime Comrade Putin will continue to feed us his borscht for breakfast.

The Biden-Putin summit meeting, while not resulting in any major breakthroughs, was at least a starting point for the two leaders to attempt to understand each other and their positions on various issues of concern to both countries.

Biden was firm and very direct with Putin, as Putin was with Biden. Now, the proof will be in the pudding, as we see how this summit will eventually affect relations between the United States and Russia. Hopefully, there will be an improvement.

Reflecting on this week’s meeting in Geneva between Biden and Putin, it was so very clear the difference between Biden, a career politician, and Trump, a career businessman.

Biden leads from behind (like former President Barack Obama).

At this rate, and after approximately 120 days in office, Biden could easily overtake Obama as the worse president.

Conversely, Trump holds people accountable and makes positive things happen. In fact, he has a proven track record of delivering outstanding results.

This is the main reason that Trump was despised by G-7 leaders, who were called on to pay up.

At the Geneva Summit, in his first test of international diplomacy as president, Biden embarrassed himself and the United States on the world stage.

Not even the pre-summit “gift” to Putin of waiving US sanctions on the Russia-Germany oil pipeline was enough for Biden to extract a concession from Putin.

Biden’s empty threats against Russia for “election interference” were followed by his biggest blunder of all.

In their discussion about cyber attacks against the United States, Biden presented Putin with a list of 16 high-profile targets which were “off limits” for any future cyber attacks. So, in other words, if you attack us, just don’t hit us in the face?

Not since Neville Chamberlain gave parts of Czechoslovakia to Adolf Hitler in exchange for a piece of paper and the empty promise of “peace for our time” has a leader of the free world cowered so in the face of evil.

Apparently, the only Biden that can get anything out of the Russians is Hunter.

It was more than refreshing to see that Biden was so successful in representing the United States, which was essentially AWOL from the world stage over the last four years under Trump, while not cottoning to Putin, as Trump was wont to do.

Acting like a president, Biden didn’t push any other diplomats out of the way for a photo opportunity, and he didn’t tell any of us, as did Trump, that we had to believe Putin because he was “very powerful and strong” in his denials of Russian subterfuge and treatment of dissidents in his country.

It is nice to once again have a competent president in the White House.

Trump warned America about Biden’s inability to deal with foreign leaders like Putin during the presidential election.

And from what we witnessed this week, he was right. America and her allies need to be very worried.
