#Does President ‘Happy Questions’ Biden know what a press conference is for?

President Joe Biden had a snit fit at Friday’s press conference, lecturing reporters, “I want to talk about happy things, man,” because they were asking more questions about the Afghan pullout than he wanted to answer — and his goal was to push a narrative about his administration’s success.

Which misses the point of a president facing the media, namely (in part) to get him to address issues he doesn’t prefer to discuss.

The president whined, “It’s the Fourth of July,” and complained, “You guys are asking me questions that I’ll answer next week. This is a holiday weekend, I’m going to celebrate it. There’s great things happening,” listing some of his supposed successes.

He did answer the first two questions on Afghanistan, but mostly with hand waves, insisting America isn’t rushing out any faster than planned and that the democratic government has “the capacity to sustain” itself against the surging Taliban.

Biden’s backers in the media like to say he’s a return to normalcy after President Donald Trump, but is hiding from questions really better than the contentious back-and-forth Trump used to have?

Biden rarely faces the press at all and then routinely calls overwhelmingly on reporters he expects to be friendly. (His staff even hands him a list of “good guys.”) And of course most of the media are blatantly on his side (except when he actually tries to be bipartisan).

Has all the soft media treatment left Biden thinking press conferences exist only to push his own propaganda?
