Doechii’s Met Gala cigar was the dandiest accessory of the night

When I think about dandy, I think suave, sophisticated, gentlemanly, refined. At the 2025 Met Gala red carpet, many celebrities tried to achieve that through pinstripes, canes, and so many big hats. But Doechii did it more simply: with a cigar.

The star flaunted the eye-popping stogy as she made her way down the event’s starry blue carpet in a boyish two-piece Louis Vuitton set designed by Pharrell. Mind you, it wasn’t lit, just held delicately between her two fingers like a tea cup — because, decorum — and occasionally brought to her lips for a faux puff, because Doechii is nothing if not a performer. She completed the vision with a beautifully picked fro, and an LV stamped into her cheek — chic.

So many interpretations of the Black dandy, the historical figure and aesthetic celebrated by the event’s theme this year, relies heavily on period imagery, and cigars are undeniably folded into that visual aesthetic. Maybe that’s old school but cigarettes have been coming back in vogue in recent years with both Lorde and Addison Rae’s most recent songs mentioning it.
