#Doctor Who set to introduce transgender companion

Rebecca Root to become first-ever Doctor Who transgender companion.

When the end comes for a Doctor and another one steps in, it is not the end of the journey for fans. Thanks to Big Finish audio dramas, Doctor Who fans have been able to continue the journey of various doctors despite their time on the show coming to an end.

In this month’s story, fans will be introduced to their very first open transgender companion. Part of the Paul McGann Doctor Who series, the upcoming audio series titled “Stranded,” will introduce the milestone moment.

Rebecca Root will be portraying the voice of the character called Tania Bell. Root is known for her comedy work in the BBC series Boy Meets Girl. Making her the first trans actress to appear in a comedy series.

Will we see a transgender companion in the Doctor Who TV series?

In short, yes!

We will one day see a transgender companion in the TV series. Why am I so sure? Because it is Doctor Who. If there is one TV series that has been routinely inclusive and miles ahead of other TV shows it is the sci-fi series. It has always set an example for others.

They have always pushed for being inclusive both on and off the screen. The morale behind the vast majority of episodes is to see people as one and not apart. To be kind and to do the right thing. So yes, one day, we will see a transgender companion, probably even a doctor, one day.
