When you hear DJI, you probably think about flying drones, but the company also makes excellent smartphone gimbals to help stabilize video and photos. This week, the newest DJI Osmos 5 gimbal has arrived, and it features a telescoping arm allowing the gimbal to double as a selfie stick.

The DJI OM 5 keeps the same overall design and features of the previous model, including a foldable compact design, but a few noteworthy changes were made. This new gimbal is smaller and lighter, and now there’s an extension rod built-in that telescopes outwards 8.4-inches making it the perfect video selfie stick for vloggers, TikTok videos, and more.

Additionally, DJI added a new button on the handle for easy and quick access to some of the most useful Osmos features and controls. Users will also appreciate an upgraded system for the magnetic clamp arms, making it easier to insert larger phones into the gimbal.

However, with the design being smaller, lighter, and having a selfie stick built-in, battery life is taking a hit. DJI promises a battery life rating of just above six hours, while the previous model was rated for 15 hours per charge.

On the software side, the new DJI Osmos 5 gets the new “Active Track 4.0” with improved facial tracking and recognition, improved responsiveness, and all the usual zoom, panorama, and SpinShot modes. The newest capture mode, dubbed “Shotguides,” scans your surroundings and delivers tips on how to get the best photos and videos for any specific spot. Then, after you film some clips, it’ll auto-edit them into a captivating video you can instantly export and share online.

The DJI Osmo Mobile 5 is available in two colors for $159 and comes with a ring holder, clamp, tripod, wrist strap, and carry pouch. Optionally, the company announced a new $59 Fill Light Phone Clamp accessory.
