Brian Piñeyro has announced his second project as Luis, one of the many aliases he’s used throughout his career, though he’s best known as DJ Python. 057 (Schwyn), a five-track tape due out June 17 via AD 93, will follow Dreamt Takes, his 2016 debut under the Luis moniker. Along with news of the forthcoming project, he’s shared its first two songs, “timmy chalamet” and “or anyone said it.”
057 (Schwyn)‘s newly arrived offerings present the start of a contemplative record, too slow for most dance floors but too pulse-oriented for a completely passive listen. Both cuts slowly draw the listener in, incrementally unfolding from rhythmic seeds into textural tapestries before our ears. It’s a refreshing dose of minimalism from Piñeyro, who paints operates in flashier — though no less engaging — strokes under his serpentine stage name.
