#Disney Should Put These Heroes Together for MCU’s The Midnight Suns

“Disney Should Put These Heroes Together for MCU’s The Midnight Suns”

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has already seen great teams come together to take on incredible odds. The Avengers have proven to be Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. The Guardians of the Galaxy were essential to fighting off the greatest threats to the cosmos. From the Defenders to the Revengers to the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Marvel has held nothing back when showcasing the best teams to enter the MCU. But, with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), we’ve seen that there are supernatural threats that can, at times, prove too significant for one person.

That’s why Marvel needs to introduce The Midnight Suns. Known to comic book fans as The Midnight Sons, this team specialized in taking on magical entities and fighting back against demonic forces that wished to overrule the world. We’re going to look at some characters that are already a part of the MCU’s roster, some that are set to join in the near future, and one that could potentially cross cinematic universes to join the fight.

6 Moon Knight

Oscar Isaac’s run in the Disney Plus miniseries Moon Knight was phenomenal, featuring the titular hero taking on the forces of the Egyptian God, Ammit. Marc Spector would embody his powers as Khonshu’s avatar to maintain the balance among the gods. Moon Knight is a perfect wildcard with various weapons, multiple personalities, and a bit of regeneration.

While Ammit may be tamed for now, the MCU has not held back on the possibility of there being multiple pantheons of gods, all with their respective evil deities. Should Hela or Surtur rise from Asgard’s destruction, or Dormammu decides he wishes to reign over more than his own dimension, Moon Knight could prove to be an experienced ally, having worked to take gods down a peg before. Not to mention, should the team need flexibility in whether to kill someone or not, John Lockley or Steven Grant can be called on for their respective talents.

5 Werewolf by Night

There had been speculation that Werewolf by Night would be featured in some capacity during Moon Knight. There are now reports that Werewolf by Night will be the main character for the as-yet-untitled Marvel Halloween Special. The Werewolf by Night character is used in many of the creature feature-like titles in the Marvel Comics library, usually contending with other werewolves, or other monsters of the night (i.e., vampires, zombies, demons, etc.)

While there is a long history of the character being a man named Jack Russell, current reports show that the MCU version of the character will take after Jake Gomez, a man of the Hopi tribe. This character, having less experience, would show a better handle of his transformations, using music to help control his emotions. With Marvel’s history of impressive soundtracks, one can look forward to the music and the ferocity that a character such as Werewolf by Night would bring to the MCU.

4 Blade

While many will always think of Wesley Snipes when they hear the words Marvel & Blade uttered in the same sentence, the time for a new guard has come. Mahershala Ali takes the mantle of the Daywalker, having first appeared (offscreen) in The Eternals (2021). Blade is part vampire and, as such, is capable of walking in the daylight but also possesses the strength and speed of the Kindred.

Blade has a cinematic history that predates the MCU. With the reintroduction of such an iconic character, one can expect there to be vampiric threats looming. Perhaps even Dracula will appear in the future Blade project, currently in development. With Blade also rumored to be making an appearance in the Marvel Halloween Special, he could be set up as the leader of The Midnight Suns.

3 Brother Voodoo

The Midnight Suns will be facing more than just creatures of the night. With magical forces already coming into play in the forms of Baron Mordo, Kaecilius, & Agatha Harkness, the team will need a sorcerer of their own. Doctor Strange is currently off this universe, fighting alongside Clea. So the team is going to need another sorcerer. One that Doctor Strange would trust. Meaning this would be the perfect time to introduce Brother Voodoo.

Jericho Drumm is a magical practitioner with a specialty in voodoo. With abilities such as communing with the dead and crafting magical resistances, Brother Voodoo would be truly acceptable when in tandem with any of the Midnight Sons. Should the team need any advice from previously fallen comrades, or should they need to be guided back to the mortal realm, Brother Voodoo would be a more than capable ally.

2 Ghost Rider

Another integral member of the team would be the Ghost Rider. While many are looking forward to Johnny Blaze returning to the big screen, the MCU has already established Robbie Reyes as the Ghost Rider, and he has been very effective. Making appearances in season four of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Robbie uses his penance stare and his 1969 Dodge Charger R/T fueled by hellfire to help the team pursue the Darkhold.

Robbie has disappeared from the MCU since, but with the rise of supernatural threats, one has to believe the Spirit of Vengeance has a role to play in rectifying the situation. Should demons such as Nightmare and Blackheart strike, Robbie can help the team travel to their demon realm with his trusty steed. With a focus on the origin of the Ghost Rider powers, MCU fans can finally see Mephisto brought to life.

1 Magik

With Marvel exploring the multiverse in the MCU and Professor Charles Xavier making an appearance, the door is finally open for actors to reprise their roles from Fox’s X-Men franchise. Anya Taylor-Joy played the role of Magik very well in The New Mutants (2020) and would play off very well alongside the rest of the team. She could pair off with Blade as the duo of swordsmen taking on evil forces in a final stand. She can also call upon her loyal dragon Lockheed and travel through Limbo should the team ever need reinforcements.

While the Midnight Sons of the comics were traditionally exclusively men, Marvel is showing that they are willing to break tradition, altering the group’s name for their upcoming video game adaptation. With this restriction lifted and Wanda potentially taking a backseat, for the time being, Magik is the perfect person to bring to the team. Providing power, confidence, and plenty of snark, she can keep wildcards like Moon Knight in check while proving just as capable, if not more so than any of her teammates. This move can also open the door for other X-Men to make their presence felt throughout the MCU franchise.
