Tom Hanks stars as a WWII US Navy Commander in Greyhound, now streaming on Apple TV Plus

Tom Hanks and the military go hand in hand. From Saving Private Ryan to Band of Brothers, Hanks has a knack for entertaining films and shows about war. Hanks returns to the military onscreen as a World War II US Navy Commander in Greyhound, now streaming on Apple TV Plus.

Based on the novel, The Good Shepherd by C. S. Forester, Greyhound takes place during the early days of U.S. involvement in WWII. Hanks stars as Captain Ernest Krause, a commander in the Navy who is tasked with crossing the Atlantic Ocean on the USS Keeling, a destroyer.

While at sea, Krause comes under attack from German submarines in The Battle of Atlantic and must find a way to defeat the opposition.

Hanks serves as the screenwriter for Greyhound, which is the first movie he’s written since 2011’s Larry Crowne. Aaron Schneider serves as director, which ends a decade long hiatus from directing feature films. Stephen Graham, Rob Morgan, and Elisabeth Shue all costar alongside Hanks.

Where to watch Greyhound

Greyhound was supposed to be released theatrically on June 12, 2020, but the film was delayed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Apple TV Plus stepped in and decided to purchase the distribution rights for $70 million.
