#Detectives’ union handing out free turkeys for Thanksgiving

The city’s detectives’ union plans to give away 500 free turkeys in Harlem on Tuesday as part of a larger citywide giveaway the week before Thanksgiving, officials said.

“NYPD Detectives connecting with the community has never been more important,” Detectives’ Endowment Association President Paul DiGiacomo said. “As we help deliver turkeys during the holiday season, we want New Yorkers to know that the gold shield we proudly wear is a symbol of justice for all people. Detectives are part of our communities and we will always be here to support and advocate for every person in every neighborhood.”

The union along with the NYPD Community Affairs Bureau and other groups are holding multiple turkey giveaways on five separate dates in the city this week.

The Harlem turkey giveaway will take place from from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday on Chisum Place between 141st and 142nd St., the union said.

There are giveaways planned for every borough through Friday, including:

Turkeys will be handed out on Wednesday at the Andrew Jackson Houses, from 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 p.m., the Throgs Neck Houses between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., the Astoria Houses between 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. and the South Jamaica Houses between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m.

They will also be given out on Thursday at the Stapleton Houses between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m., the Carey Garden Houses from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., the Seth Low Houses from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and the Farragut Houses from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The final giveaway on Friday will take place at the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church at 221 Beach 86th Street at 11 a.m.
