Detective Conan: Black Iron Submarine

Conan may have had to go underwater in his latest anime film but that doesn’t mean people haven’t been coming out in droves to see him come up for air as Toho revealed today that Detective Conan: Black Iron Submarine has reached 11.11 billion yen at the Japanese box office in just 31 days.

As of Sunday, May 14, Detective Conan: Black Iron Submarine has made 11.11 billion yen (US$93.65 million) at the Japanese box office – the highest-grossing film in the Detective Conan/Case Closed franchise – on the back of 7.83 million tickets sold. This makes the film the 32nd highest-grossing film of all time in Japan just behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Further along, the series has confirmed that the total box office gross for all 26 Detective Conan/Case Closed films has reached past a momentous 100 billion yen.

Detective Conan: Black Iron Submarine is directed by Yuzuru Tachikawa at TMS Entertainment. The film opened in Japan on April 14 and was the first film in the entire franchise to pass 10 billion yen.
