The production team for The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten has revealed a new seasonal key visual titled “Mahiru and the New Year.” According to the Chinese Zodiac calendar, 2023 is the year of the rabbit, and the visual showcases main heroine Mahiru with a small bunny on her shoulder. The anime series will premiere on January 7, 2023. 

Many previous key visuals have been released for the anime, leading up to its winter premiere, including one for Christmas and one for Halloween.  

The production staff includes Kenichi Imaizumi (Kingdom Season 3, After School Dice Club) and Lihua Wang as directors, Keiichirou Oochi (Girlfriend, Girlfriend) as series screenwriter, Takayuki Noguchi (Higehiro: After Being Rejected, I Shaved and Took in a High School Runaway) as character designer, and Moe Hyuuga (If My Favorite Pop Idol Made It to the Budokan, I Would Die) as music composer. Project No.9 is in charge of the animation production. 

Additional staff include Masakazu Miyake (Prima Doll) as art director, Hiyori’s Yukiko Ario (The Greatest Demon Lord is Reborn as a Typical Nobody) as color designer, and Tomiya Kamijou (Higehiro: After Being Rejected, I Shaved and Took in a High School Runaway) as photography director.

The voice cast consists of Taito Ban as Amane Fujimiya, Manaka Iwami as Mahiru, Taku Yashiro as Itsuki Akasawa, and Haruka Shiraishi as Chitose Shirakawa.

The original light novel series is written by Saekisan and illustrated by Hanekoto beginning from volume two onwards. It was first published on June 15, 2019 under SB Creative’s GA Bunko imprint. Seven volumes and a short story collection have been released as of September 2022. An eighth volume is set for release on January 14, 2023. A manga adaptation by Wan Shibata was launched in Square Enix’s Manga UP! app and website on January 6, 2022. 

The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten light novels are released in English by Yen Press’s Yen On imprint. It describes the story as:

Mahiru is a beautiful girl whose classmates all call her an “angel.” Not only is she a star athlete with perfect grades—she’s also drop-dead gorgeous. Amane, an average guy and self-admitted slob, has never thought much of the divine beauty, despite attending the same school. 

Everything changes, however, when he happens to see Mahiru sitting alone in a park during a rainstorm. Thus begins the strange relationship between this incredibly unlikely pair!
